The Halong Bay Heritage Marathon 2020 took place safely and successfully on November 22, 2020 in the warm welcome of the people in Ha Long city and the bay's dry and cool weather, marking the sixth consecutive hosting of the race by the Department of Culture and Sports of Quang Ninh province in coordination with the Ha Long municipal People's Committee, the Vietnam Athletics Federation and Duc Huong Anh Co. Ltd. on the banks of the World Natural Heritage. The marathon has become one of the annual international cultural and sport events, contributing to promoting tourism development for Ha Long and Quang Ninh province.

The year 2020 has been exceptionally challenging, after the COVID-19 pandemic has caused most of the world's major marathons to be postponed or canceled. Thanks to Vietnam's success in controlling the disease well, the Organizing Committee (Organizers) of the Halong Bay Heritage Marathon has steadfastly kept unchanged the schedule of the race. However, if the 2019 marathon was evaluated by Quang Ninh provincial leaders as an event that "attracted the largest number of foreign tourists to Quang Ninh", as more than 3,000 runners joined the competition, nearly 1,600 of whom came from 56 countries, foreign runners could not make it to Vietnam this year due to the pandemic. But on the other hand, the 2020 race has recorded a strong jump in the number of Vietnam-based runners, rising to nearly 2,500 people, including foreign athletes who are working and living in Vietnam.

The race's four distances, namely the 5-km, 10-km, 21-km or semi-marathon and 42-km or full marathon, all have Start and Finish points at the Quang Ninh Planning, Fair and Exhibition Center on Tran Quoc Nghien street of Ha Long City. Its track along the bay has been certified by the World Athletics (IAAF) and the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS), and has also been voted by the Runner's World UK magazine, a famous publication in the marathon community, as one of the world's Top 150 beautiful tracks.

The professional hosting of a large-scale race such as the Halong Bay Heritage Marathon, which has attracted thousands of foreign runners over the years, has contributed to making Vietnam, especially Ha Long, a desirable destination among foreign marathoners, affirming the quality and prestige of Vietnam as a destination, especially of Quang Ninh with Ha Long Bay heritage. In addition, the success of the Halong Bay Heritage Marathon 2020 is a strong affirmation of the Vietnamese government's correct policy on realizing the dual goal: promoting prevention of the pandemic while boosting the country's socio-economic development.

The competition at the Halong Bay Heritage Marathon 2020 was supported by Ha Long residents and running lovers elsewhere thanks to the live broadcast by Vietnam Television (VTV), various domestic media channels as well as on the leading social networks Facebook and YouTube.

The marathon has specifically welcomed the presence and competition in the 5-km distance by Miss Lumiere International World 2018 Do Thi Thao, who has been living and working in Japan as the founder of the  non-governmental organization "Southeast Asian Education". Miss Do Thi Thao shared her desire of using her image and voice to inspire people to run more to improve health and bring positive energy to the community. In addition, Do Thi Thao also wants to act as a bridge to convey the message of "Vietnam - a safe destination" to the Japanese people, who always have a special affection for the country and people of Vietnam. The majestic beauty of the World Natural Heritage will be shared directly by Miss Do Thi Thao with Japan's running community with the belief that Halong Bay Heritage Marathon and Halong Bay will become their desired destinations.

Representatives of Quang Ninh provincial and Ha Long municipal departments joined the Organizers and Miss Do Thi Thao in the Prize Award Ceremony held on the morning of November 22, right after runners had completed the race's longest distance - the 42-km full marathon.
